This year in 6th grade we hope to discuss the following topics to prepare our students for 7th grade.
Science: This year we are using the Interactive Science Text curriculum used in the MS.. We are studying Physical Science which includes the following: Introduction to Matter, Solids Liquids and Gases, Elements and Periodic Table, Atoms and Bonding, Chemical Reactions and finishing up with Acids, Bases and Solutions. Your child will again study Physical Science in 9th Grade.
Social Studies: We will start out the year by studying Frontiers of the West starting in ca. 1849 with the Gold Rush. We will then cover the topics of the Machine Age, Urban Life and Immigration, America's Empire, WW I, The 1920's and the Great Depression. We will also be discussing Iowa History and Civics.
Math: We will continue to be using the Math Expressions curriculum. The topics to be discussed include: Rates, Ratios and Proportions, Area of Polygons, Operations with Whole Numbers, Fractions and Decimals, Surface Area of Prisms and Pyramids, Expressions and Equations, Volume of a Rectangular Prism, Ratios and Rates with Fractions, Decimals and Percents, Analyzing Stats, and finish up with Rational Numbers and the Coordinate Plane.
Ms Houser will be teaching the Reading and Language Arts sections this year.
